Of sand and sweat

Went to the beach today. I had my period last time we went so I couldn't go in the water (don't say tampons), and I'd really been looking forward to this trip, to go in the water with my sister, but the weather was reallt cold and lousy and stuff. I got some nice rocks off the beach though. And a shell that was completely black. Very cool...

Sorry, gotta rant: I DON'T LIKE IT WHEN GIRLS STARVE THEMSELVES TO BE SKINNY! IT IS ONE OF THE TOP THREE THINGS I DISLIKE ABOUT TEENAGE GIRLS (not that I have a list or know what the other two are). It's okay to want to be attractive and stuff (heck, I want to feel good-looking, too) but there are other ways to get skinny. What do they think, every skinny girl starves herself? True, that seems to be how many skinny people (especially a lot of celebrities) are the way they are these days. I mean, the "standard of beauty" has gotten ridiculous. Older movie stars could be beautiful and still put food in their bodies. But even today's stars, disregarding a few loonies, it's their job to look good (even if some of us--including me--don't think many of the ultra-skinny ones look good when they look like they'll snap in two with a strong breeze), and secondly, they don't just starve themselves. They have trainers, they have special diets (that include eating), they're dressed incredibly well (ever watched "What Not To Wear" on BBC?). Eating is something that people need to do to survive, right up there with sleeping and going to the bathroom. It just has to happen for a human to stay alive. And I think the above rant proves that I'm not talking about a grain of rice every six hours.

Anywhoo, to make this relative, I'll tell you I'm starting to exercise and eat better because I want to look and feel better. I feel disgusting most of the time, so I think this is good for me. And I'm gonna monitor myself to make sure that I don't go overboard. I went for a walk after dinner tonight.

On the reading front, I read Harry Potter in the car today. Think I got in about twenty pages, at least.

Gonna look at a college tomorrow...

Well, I'm off to sketch, practice Chinese, write a novel, and possibly read one. :o)

Big overhaul

I cleaned my room yesterday. May not seem like a big thing, esp. because I have the smallest room in the house, but I think I have the most junk in my room. And I don't even use half of it! Thing is, whenever I go to throw stuff away, I can never bring myself to generate more than a garbage bag full. It's bizarre. Still, every little bit helps.

On the plus side of cleaning my room, I finally managed to put up my latest-obsession collage I've been wanting to do:

Hehe. :o)

I've been studying for my driver's test. I don't want to take forever in getting a license, but there's just something in me that doesn't seem to want to learn it. Don't know what, but I'm doing the best I can to ignore it.

You have chosen The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
Harry Potter is a pretty good movie but there
is no way it can compare to the LOTR!! You love
the action you get when you watch the battles
take place that may just chance the way all of
the races live in Middle Earth. If you picked
the "Hottest male of 2002" to be one
of the men from The Trilogy then you are
probably just as obsessed as me!

Permit me a girlish squeal.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

Okay.

The other night, I called this guy I had my first college class (which wasn't too long ago, it was the class before video game design) with. He didn't answer, which wasn't a big surprise to me because he's busy a lot. I didn't leave a message because it was nothing urgent, I just wanted to chat. I figured I might try him again next week.

Anywhoo, I was home today, not doing much, just stuff on the computer. I went upstairs to get something and when I came back down, I noticed on my cell phone (which I'd put next to the computer) that I had a voicemail message. I thought it might have been an important missed family call, so I checked it right away. I couldn't believe it when that guy's voice came through on the other end of the phone! He thanked me for calling him the other night, he said he was sorry he'd missed my call, he said that he missed me (this was especially sweet. I'm not looking for anything romantic with him, despite what the above squeal may suggest, this was just really nice), and he blamed himself for not calling me sooner. You see, when we had class together, we used to talk on the phone quite a bit, though I would always be the one to call him. Often he'd tell me he'd call me, but he wouldn't. This isn't a horrible accusation I'm making, I'm just saying that it was so nice and unexpected that he called me. I called him back about forty-five minutes later, and we had a nice conversation. Thirty-two minutes. :o)

On the reading front, I didn't finish Harry Potter last week. Don't know when I'm going to get to that. Soon, hopefully. Possibly tomorrow. I've been reading Roverandom this week though. Probably got about forty pages read. Average, I'd say. I hope to be more prolific.

Hello!

My video game class ended about a week ago. The teacher took a picture of all of us together. It was really nice. I'm hoping to get into the second class this fall. I already have three other classes I'm taking, and one of them is going to be pretty heavy-duty.

I've decided to start keeping a reading log in this journal, to mark how many pages in books I read each day. I complied a personal reading list for myself yesterday. Today I'm going to try to finish the fifth Harry Potter book. :o) Wish me luck!

Heaven. In fact, I'll bet you're an Angel!

You represent... anger.
You represent... anger.
Mad at the world, eh? You have a tendency to...
freak out easily. Overly emotional about
everything, you're most prone to bouts of
cruelty and moodiness. Other people may be
afraid of the fact that you explode so easily,
but at least you're honest... even if you're
honest about not liking anything.

Which Fanfiction Term Are You?

Hmm.

My portable CD player that I've had forever finally died yesterday. It was five years old, I think. Take time to mourn, I
must...

My parents and I went shopping this morning and they bought me a new one. In addition to playing normal CDs, it plays MP3 CDs. This is a first, for me. It's nice, but one of the biggest plusses, in my eyes, is the foam jogging belt it came with, so I don't have to carry the player around. I broke a really expensive CD player not long again because I dropped it accidently. I also finally bought the Avalanches CD, "Since I Left You". Listen to them if you can, they're really awesome!

Oy, I'm tired right now. I don't know why, either. I took it slow getting up this morning. Maybe it's the heat. It's 8 jillion degrees outside currently. Thankfully, I'm within arms reach of the AC, and it's on.

Huzzah!
You're a fantasy-loving weirdo.
You love all things mystically-artistic and
imagined. Middle-Earth, Pern, Magic:The
Gathering, Dungeons and Dragons, (maybe even
Harry Potter?) are all names you know well, and
embrace all the time. You know how to where a
cloak with stiyel, and you're not ashamed to
admit that you've done online searches for
instructions on how to make fairy wings. You're
very cool. :o)
